Awaken Our Soul!

During the Great Awakening revival services were held out in a pasture and thousands would flock there for weeks to hear great preaching and experience the power of God. Even fifty years ago churches would hold revival services for two weeks and if God was moving would continue it even longer. I remember five day revivals when I was a kid. It was seen as a test of faith to schedule on a Friday night in the fall and compete with high school football. In today’s world, most churches have gotten away from holding such services. It has been years since Eastern Heights has held a revival service.

I believe that in our world we need more than ever to experience another Great Awakening. Our land is grieving from sin. Our people are weary from battle. The church is hopelessly lost in tradition and a loss of power. The evidence of a failing spiritual battle is all around us. It is time for us to awaken our soul (Psalm 57:8). It is time for us to take the call of 2 Chronicles 7:14, “ if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

November 4-7 we will be having a revival service with Mike Keahbone. Mike is blessed with an evangelistic zeal and an outpouring of God’s Spirit that makes his message exactly what we need to hear. It is your responsibility to pray, now. Awaken your soul. And it is also your responsibility to make it a priority on your calendar. Please put this service on your calendar and not allow it to be interrupted. If God is going to awaken our souls we must “lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)

Process of Regeneration

One of the many fascinating organs of our body is the skin. Skin is the largest organ of the body. Without it we would die instantly. The skin is able to survive in a wide variety of conditions. It survives in the sun, in the water, in hot weather and in cold weather. It not only survives these elements, it can provide amazing protection for over a 100 years. How is it able to survive? It is constantly regenerating itself. The epidermal layer of the skin is in a state of constant regeneration. It can regenerate itself every two to three weeks. Skin that stops regenerating itself is diseased and is in danger of killing the whole body.

Paul calls the church the body of Christ. The body of Christ has survived over 2000 years. How has it survived all the turmoil over that expanse of time? It has constantly regenerated itself. One generation of Christian leaders has risen up a new generation of Christian leaders. Jesus left eleven disciples ready to lead where he left off. Those eleven trained hundreds more to continue after their time. Christianity is only one generation away from extinction. It is our turn to take the torch that has been passed to us and give it to the next generation. When the church stops regenerating itself the disease greatly hinders the life and growth of the body of Christ.

2 Timothy 2:2, “what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
